September is blooming
View from the Verandah at Edge FM
I am standing on the verandah of the old nurse’s quarters next to the Old Bega Hospital. The real old hospital. I can hear the leaves of Currajong trees shaking in the wind as I look out across the valley to Biamanga and along the range to Gulaga.
Behind me in the Edge FM studio, Ian Campbell is presenting his first radio show after a break of many years from presenting breakfast on ABC South East. I can hear him singing along to Genesis through the old French doors.
This week has been busy at the station, we have three new presenters in training – Monika Ryan with her show about neurodiversity ‘Awkwardly Authentic’, Atiqah Addy with her music from years of living in Europe, ‘Mixtape’ and Ian’s show featuring a vinyl album every Sunday ‘The Crackle’. Quite the variety I think.
We have new sponsors too – a Criminal Law Firm, a Record Store, and Spiral Gallery joined us recently. New committee members have been welcomed, creating a beautifully diverse Edge committee to steer us into the future.
This Friday Edge FM presents the resurrected Battle of the Bands for local musicians under 25 and I want the posters to look as non-AI as possible. One of our band members has coloured them in, so I am printing them and I’ll soon head down town to put them up… at Coles, Rixon’s Arcade, Candelo Bookshop & the space outside Centrelink… I might stop in at the Spring Cattle Show at the Bega Showgrounds on my way back.
It is warm, warmer than it probably should be, and a strong wind will be creating anxiety all along the coast. I’m grateful our new climate change program will be ready in a few weeks, by October for sure.
October. Another busy month, another new show about caring for these lands. The lands of the Djiringanj. It’s going to be warm. Our Reptile Rescue sponsor has recommenced his messaging for the Summer.
Watch where you’re walking, mind how you go, tune in!
